China
is one of the countries that have the biggest freshwater area in the wofreshfishery1.jpg (19288 ×Ö½Ú)rld. The total freshwater area is about 17.6 million hectors, including river (6.86 million hector), lake (7.43 million hector), reservoirs (2 million hector), and pond (1.27 million hector). The most famous rivers are Minjiang River, Zhujiang River, Yangzi River, Yellow River, Huaihe River, Haihe River, Liaohe River, Yalu River, Wusulijiang River, Qinagtangjinag River, and Oujiang River. The most famous lakes are Qinghai Lake, Boyang Lake, Dongting Lake, Tai Lake, Hulunchi Lake, Hongzhe Lake, Namucuo Lake, Xingkai Lake, Qilin Lake, Nansi Lake, Bositeng Lake, Aibi Lake, et al.

    There are over 500 species fishes in China; half of them have economical value. About 40-50 species have big stocks. So-called Chinese carps (grass, silver, bighead and mud carp), common carp, crucian carp and Chinese bream are the mainstay fishery species around the country. Because of big atmospheric difference between north and south of China, there are some kinds of characteristic species in different freshwater areas.

North of China: Hucho taimen£¬Coregonus ussuriensis Berg, Thymallrs areticus grubei  Dybowskii

South of China: Cirrhinus molitorella

Estuary of river: eel, Macrura reevesi, Coilia ectenes, Mugil so-iu, Mugil cephalus Limmacus, Mitten crab

Yangzi River: Chinese sturgeon, Chinese lake dolphin,,Chinese finless porpoise
